2013 Racing Season
Airport Loop is back
After a long hiatus, the Airport Loop circuit is back on the racing calendar. For those not racing the Gippsland Road Race Championships at Willow Grove (see article below), an Airport Loop handicap race will be offered. Racing commences at 10am - riders to meet at the terminal building. Damian Crozier is race director...anyone interested in doing signs duty should contact Ian Johnson or Damian to advise. This is a popular training route, the racing is always hot, with most riders covering the 34km circuit in around (or less than) an hour. What is a handicap race you ask...find out here.
3 Peaks Classic
In cool and windy conditions, and proving he is no slouch in the hills, Dave McLean prevails in a close finish over Tim Boote with James Brownlie taking third.

An article for us all
This article, written in September 2011, was sent to me this week and while it is rather long I have decided to copy it in its entirety from the Cycling Tips website; I think there is something it this for everyone!! As a Club and as a cyclist I think we can all learn from this.
Last week I [Peter from Cycle Tips] wrote a post about Melbourne's bunch ride culture and the direction it's heading. Meanwhile, other cities in Australia manage to keep things in line because they haven't lost the notion of "the patron of the peloton". Someone directed me to a post written by Peter Wilborn from South Carolina (where the riding is spectacular I might add) which hit the nail on the head. With Peter's permission I've reposted his article which nicely articulates what a bunch ride should be, and more importantly, what the leaders of the ride should be.

Club Championship Points
With the 3 Peaks Classic done for another year, Dave McLean has moved to the top of the leaderboard. Other movers include James and Damian who now share equal 4th spot, Warren holding on to 3rd spot with his race duty points. Ian Johnson makes a big move up the board, picking up 8 points in a combined effort of setting out the signs then saddling up for the race and finishing 6th overall, thus proving it's not necessarily all about race results.
